Using a drum-building process that's been refined through over a century, the Classic Maple drums are hand-crafted in Ludwig USA in Monroe, NC and remain true to the signature Ludwig sound and exceptional performance.
Shell - The standard 7-ply, 6mm shells of the Classic Maple are designed to maximize resonance and tonal character, and their center 3-ply core panel is inserted between the inner and outer 2-ply panels through Ludwig's exclusive RFST molding procedure. All Ludwig USA shells are manufactured using Radio Frequency Shell Technology to enhance the drum's stability. RFST's unique bonding system - a process involving Ludwig's historic bladder molds dating back to the late '60s, in combination with a specialized, time-proven adhesive, allows each shell to cure evenly over their entire surface. A process which is truly a key component in creating the coveted Ludwig Sound in every shell.

Bearing Edge - Each drum's bearing edge is expertly hand-sanded to assure a smooth and even surface to assist with head seating. Cut to a 45º angle within 1/16" from the outside edge, these bearing edges are the craftsman's final touch to achieve the coveted and unmistakable Ludwig Sound.
